What is the value of a good resume
We are in constant discussion with HR professionals of different companies almost on a regular basis. One of the most repeated complaint that we hear from them is the really pathetic condition of the resumes that they get. I was thinking that they are just over reacting. And then few days back I posted my email address on one of the posts, asking mywalkin users to send me information about walkin interviews that they may be knowing. Since then I have been getting number of resumes in my inbox that prompted me to write this post.
Here is a quick question. Will you go to an interview wearing a dirty, crumpled shirt without even combing your hair? I doubt any of our users will say yes to that. But then how do you send out resumes that look exactly like that. Spelling errors, personal information right at the top, formatting that will put a 2 year old to shame and a lot more. Please remember that your resume always speaks a lot about you. Positive or negative depends on how you have prepared your resume.
Looks matter
Have you watched the television recently. Have you ever wondered why there are so many products that promise to make you look you better? Because all of us know that how we look makes a difference, in personal as well as professional life. More we importantly we are ready to spend money to look better.
When it comes to searching for a job, the first impression is created not by you but by your resume. What does a resume full of wrong spellings, haphazard formatting tell a prospective employer? That you are a careless person who does not worry about your own job. How do you think that guy will trust you with his important project.
Spend time or spend money
Continuing that example of personal grooming products, we can look better in 2 ways. Either we spend time in getting a perfect body or we spend money to get that look. The first is always preferable but most of us are too busy to spend time on ourselves and hence we take the easy way of spending money to look good. The same choice is available to you for your resume as well. Either you spend time on improving your resume or you pay some professional to do that for you.
Unfortunately I am told by many people that I know that Indian users will not pay to get an improved resume. As always I do not believe anything till I have proved it for myself. So here is the deal.
If you want a better resume for yourself
- Send me an email at resumepro@mywalkin.com
- Attach your existing resume
- Tell me how much you are willing to pay for a better resume. It can be anything from Rs.1 to Rs.10,000.
I will personally work on the resumes of 10 people who pay the maximum amount to me. At the end of the exercise I shall publish the resume that came in and the final resume created by me. I will remove your personal details like name, email, phone and company name. Mywalkin users get to decide if I should continue this professional resume writing business or not.
